Police say a 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a child on an elementary school playground near Victoria earlier this week.
According to West Shore RCMP, the incident is alleged to have happened on Sept. 15 between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., while the girl was playing outside Eagle View Elementary in View Royal.
Investigators say the child, who is under 12, was approached by an “unknown male suspect” who exposed himself and touched her in a sexual way. She was able to leave the area safely and was not physically injured.
“This is a deeply troubling incident, and our investigators are working hard to identify and locate the suspect,” Cpl. Nancy Saggar said in a news release Wednesday.
Police confirmed the man was arrested Wednesday evening and remains in custody, awaiting a court appearance later Thursday.
Authorities added that no similar incidents have been reported.
