Man stabbed by stranger while waiting for Bus in Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD, BC – Abbotsford Police are investigating after a 20-year-old man was stabbed by a stranger Tuesday night while waiting for a bus.

The Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) stated they responded to a reported stabbing on South Fraser Way near the West Oaks Mall around 6:15 p.m.

Police reported that the suspect approached the victim from behind, an altercation ensued, and the suspect then stabbed the victim.

“The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment,” an AbbyPD release confirmed on Wednesday.

Sergeant Paul Walker told 1130 NewsRadio that the motive for the incident is unclear, but police are treating the crime as a random act. “Indications suggest, at this point, they were not related to each other…The exact circumstances of why this occurred are unknown, but it appears to be random in nature at this point,” said Walker.

The suspect fled the scene on foot, according to police.
