Man arrested in Surrey, B.C., for sexual assault and theft

Police in Surrey, B.C., say a 42-year-old man has been charged in connection with a theft and two separate assaults that occurred on the same night this summer. 

According to the Surrey Police Service, the suspect, identified as Kulwinder Mann, remains in custody and faces charges of assault, sexual assault, and theft under $5,000. 

The charges relate to incidents on Aug. 26. Around 3:10 a.m., a man walking in the 9800 block of King George Boulevard was approached by a stranger, leading to an altercation in which the suspect allegedly stole his cellphone. Shortly afterward, a woman in the same area was allegedly pushed into nearby bushes and sexually assaulted. The suspect then fled on foot. 

The case was taken over by the Surrey police special investigations section, which released images of the suspect the next day. Mann was set to appear in court Thursday.
