Man arrested after fleeing police in Sidney

A man has been arrested and is facing multiple charges after fleeing from police in Sidney, BC, on Wednesday morning.

Authorities report that at 10:04 a.m. on Wednesday, Sidney/North Saanich RCMP frontline members responded to a witness report. The witness stated a man was allegedly smoking from a bong while in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked at a local business in Sidney.

RCMP members located the vehicle still parked and initiated a traffic stop. However, the alleged suspect vehicle rapidly reversed, striking the police vehicle. Other officers on scene attempted to block the vehicle from leaving, but the suspect vehicle hit a police car again before speeding away.

RCMP stated that officers from neighboring police agencies assisted in the search for the vehicle. At approximately 11:00 a.m., members of the Saanich Police Department located the vehicle in the Willis Point area. Saanich Police Department members were able to safely take the driver into custody after the vehicle attempted to flee a roadblock they had set up.
