Lt-Gen Jamie Speiser-Blanchet becomes first female commander of Royal Canadian Air Force

Lieutenant-General Jamie Speiser-Blanchet has officially taken command of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) today, becoming the first woman to lead the branch. The historic change-of-command ceremony in Ottawa was presided over by Chief of the Defence Staff General Jennie Carignan.

Lt.-Gen. Speiser-Blanchet assumes leadership from Lt.-Gen. Eric Kenny, who is retiring after three-and-a-half decades of dedicated service in the air force.

A seasoned officer, Lt.-Gen. Speiser-Blanchet has an extensive background as a Griffon helicopter pilot and has served in various command roles, most recently as the air force’s deputy commander.

Her operational deployments include significant contributions to UN and NATO peacekeeping missions in Haiti and Bosnia. Domestically, she has also been deployed in response to emergencies such as forest fires and floods, showcasing her versatility and commitment.

Hailing from Chicoutimi, Quebec, Lt.-Gen. Speiser-Blanchet is now the 22nd commander of the RCAF.
