Harman Bhangu, the MLA for Langley-Abbotsford, has officially announced his candidacy for leader of the British Columbia Conservative Party.

Bhangu is the 11th candidate to seek the position and says he aims to become both party leader and the next premier of B.C., citing concerns that many residents are bearing the consequences of decisions they didn’t make.

Before his election, Bhangu served as a vice-president in the party and helped build it from the ground up, motivated by a commitment to grassroots conservative values such as hard work, responsibility, and the rule of law.

The leadership vote is scheduled for May 30. Candidates must pay a $115,000 entry fee and submit at least 250 signatures from five different regions. The nomination deadline was February 15.

In a video announcement, Bhangu said he and others are questioning whether their children will have a future in B.C., pointing to a weakening economy, declining investments, and families leaving the province.
