A British Columbia judge has ruled that Adam Kai-Ji Lo, the man accused of killing 11 people at this year’s Lapu-Lapu Day festival, is fit to stand trial.

In addition to the 11 counts of second-degree murder he was already facing, prosecutors have approved 31 new charges of attempted murder against Lo in connection with the April vehicle-ramming attack. At the time of the incident, Lo was under the mandatory care of a Vancouver Coastal Health community team and was living in the community subject to conditions under the Mental Health Act.

The B.C. Prosecution Service charged Lo with 31 counts of attempted murder in relation to the surviving victims.

Chief Constable Steve Rai of the Vancouver Police expressed his condolences to those affected by the attack and thanked the police and prosecution service for their diligent work. “This is another step toward answers and accountability in one of the most horrific incidents our city has ever faced,” Rai said.
