Over 375,000 Jeep plug-in hybrid vehicles are being recalled due to a potential battery fire risk, including nearly 21,000 in Canada.

In Canada, the recall affects Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid models from 2022 to 2025 and Jeep Wrangler plug-in hybrids from 2021 to 2025.

According to Transport Canada, “a defect in the high-voltage battery could cause a fire, even when the vehicle is parked and the ignition is turned off.”

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA)—a subsidiary of Stellantis, based in the Netherlands—is advising affected owners to stop charging their vehicles and to park them outdoors, away from buildings and other vehicles until repairs are made. However, the company says a permanent fix is still being developed.

An internal investigation by Stellantis, launched after reviewing customer data, uncovered 19 incidents of fire.

“The risk is lower when the battery is fully discharged,” the company said in an online statement. “A remedy is imminent, and affected customers will be notified once service appointments can be scheduled.”

Transport Canada also noted that previous repairs made under similar Jeep recalls in November 2023 and September 2024 may not have resolved the issue, meaning a new repair is required.

In total, 20,753 vehicles are affected in Canada, over 320,000 in the United States, and 34,891 in other countries.

According to the Associated Press, at least one injury has been linked to fires potentially caused by the faulty Jeep batteries.
