On July 23, 2025, around 6:40 p.m., police responded to a report of a neighbourhood dispute in the 11800 block of 239 Street in Maple Ridge, B.C.
Later that evening, at approximately 10:51 p.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP were called back to the same area following reports of a vehicle fire and an ongoing break-and-enter. Soon after, additional calls reported gunfire at the location.
When officers arrived, they discovered two vehicles and an attached garage engulfed in flames. Inside the residence, police found two deceased individuals and a dog.
The suspect was believed to be armed and barricaded inside a neighbouring home. Police established a containment perimeter and, with assistance from the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (LMD IERT), gained entry to the residence. Inside, a third person was found deceased.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the investigation into the deaths of the two individuals found in the first home.
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has also been notified and is conducting a parallel investigation into the police response during the incident.
Update:
IHIT continues to work closely with Ridge Meadows RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service to move the investigation forward.
Based on preliminary findings, investigators believe this was a targeted and isolated incident stemming from a long-standing dispute between neighbours who were familiar with each other. No suspects remain outstanding.
The two people found dead in the first home have been identified as a man and woman in their 60s.
“Our thoughts are with the victims’ family, friends, and community,” said IHIT spokesperson Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi. “This has been a tragic event that has deeply affected the families, the neighbourhood, and the first responders involved.”
Bruce Fairweather, a nearby resident, said he regularly spoke with one of the victims. According to him, the couple had been in an ongoing conflict with a neighbour for years. He noted that the individual would frequently verbally abuse them, issue threats, and make obscene gestures.
