Metro Vancouver residents should prepare for a hot and dry weekend as temperatures are forecast to climb into the high 20s or low 30s.
According to meteorologist Michael Kuss, while heat warnings are unlikely, the region will see a stretch of warm days. Kuss noted that longer nights will help keep evening and overnight temperatures cooler compared to previous heat waves.
Despite a record-breaking rainfall on August 15, which saw 43.2 millimeters of rain at Vancouver International Airport (YVR)—a new record that surpassed the 1912 record by over 60%—Kuss says the month has not been unusually wet overall. The YVR weather station has recorded 110 millimeters of precipitation from June 1 to August 20, which is close to the seasonal average of 121 millimeters for the same period.
Kuss expects the dry spell to continue for the rest of the month, with a run of seven straight hot days beginning this Friday.
