Authorities have launched a homicide investigation after a body was discovered inside a burning vehicle in the Fraser Valley community of Popkum on Sunday.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is leading the probe. According to Agassiz RCMP, officers responded to reports of a car fire on Cheam Road around 11:35 p.m. Upon arrival, emergency responders located a deceased individual within the vehicle. Police stated they have reason to believe the death is criminal in nature.
IHIT is now working in conjunction with Agassiz RCMP and Chilliwack RCMP to gather evidence. The area has been cordoned off as investigators process the scene. Authorities are urging anyone with dashcam footage from the vicinity of Cheam Road and Bridal Falls Road to contact investigators immediately.
