Type 2 diabetes is incredibly prevalent in the South Asian population. We have higher risk of insulin insensitivity as well as other diabetes-associated risk factors including increased visceral adiposity. Poor dental health increases the risk of a bacterial infection in the blood stream, which can affect the heart valves. Oral health may be particularly important if you have artificial heart valves.
