Hamas announced on Friday that it would accept certain parts of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza, including the release of hostages and the transfer of the enclave’s administration. However, the group said it sought further negotiations on many of the plan’s other terms.

The statement came in response to Trump’s 20-point proposal, after he gave Hamas until Sunday to either accept or reject the deal.

Notably, Hamas did not clarify whether it would agree to a requirement to disarm—a central demand from both Israel and the United States that the group has consistently opposed.

In its statement, Hamas expressed appreciation for Arab, Islamic, and international efforts, as well as Trump’s initiative, highlighting elements such as ending the war, exchanging prisoners, and ensuring the rapid delivery of humanitarian aid. The group confirmed its approval to release all Israeli prisoners, both living and deceased, in line with the exchange framework outlined in Trump’s plan, provided that “necessary field conditions” are met.

Hamas also declared its willingness to enter immediate negotiations through mediators to discuss the plan’s details. Additionally, it said it was prepared to transfer governance of Gaza to a Palestinian technocratic body formed by national consensus and backed by Arab and Islamic countries.

Responding online, Trump welcomed Hamas’s statement and urged Israel to halt its bombardment of Gaza. “Based on the Statement just issued by Hamas, I believe they are ready for a lasting PEACE,” he wrote on Truth Social, adding that a ceasefire was necessary to safely secure the release of hostages.

Trump’s proposal, which is supported by Israel along with Arab and European powers, calls for an immediate ceasefire, a full hostage-for-prisoner exchange, a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the disarmament of Hamas, and the establishment of a transitional administration led by an international body.
