he management committee of Surrey’s Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara is joining other Sikh groups across British Columbia in condemning Premier David Eby’s planned visit to India.

Eby’s mission, which includes Minister of Jobs and Economic Growth Ravi Kahlon, is set to begin Monday and run through the following Saturday. The trip includes stops in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Bengaluru and is aimed at strengthening trade ties between British Columbia and India amid the impact of tariffs.

In a media release issued Thursday, the Guru Nanak committee called on Eby to suspend the trip “until full justice is secured for Bhai Hardeep Singh Nijjar.” The statement notes that the federal government has publicly acknowledged “credible allegations” linking agents of the Indian government to Nijjar’s killing.

The committee said Nijjar’s death was more than a targeted killing, describing it as “an attack on a sacred space of Sikhs and on the fundamental values Canada claims to uphold.” It added that proceeding with an official visit to India without accountability, justice or transparency over the killing of a B.C. resident on Canadian soil would be “profoundly disturbing and deeply hurtful” to the Sikh community.

The committee said the trip should be postponed until those responsible are held fully accountable and the “safety, dignity and rights of all Canadian citizens are unequivocally upheld.”

Separately, a group of Sikh activists gathered on the steps of the B.C. legislature on Thursday, waving Khalistan flags and urging Eby to cancel the upcoming trip.
