Malaysia and Indonesia have blocked access to Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, amid growing concerns over its potential misuse in creating explicit images. Authorities in both Southeast Asian countries cited the risk of nonconsensual and sexual deepfakes and have called on Musk’s platform X to implement stronger safeguards to prevent abuse.
The U.K. media regulator has also launched an investigation into the platform. Grok, which was launched in 2023, has faced global scrutiny for its image-generation capabilities.
