Fraudsters are spoofing SPS non-emergency number

RED FM News Desk

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) is alerting the public that fraudsters are currently spoofing our non-emergency number, (604) 599-0502, to trick people into giving out personal or financial information. Calls may appear to come from SPS, and the caller might even invent an officer’s name and badge number to gain trust. These calls are not legitimate, and SPS will never call to request money.

The public is advised to:

  • Never provide personal information over the phone.
  • Do not send money or click on any links sent by the caller.
  • End the call immediately.
  • Verify the caller’s identity by contacting our non-emergency line at (604) 599-0502 and report details of the call.

Similar scams have been reported across Canada, including several cases in the local area.
