RED FM News Desk

Fraser Health Public Health is reminding residents to buy food only from approved and licensed food service establishments. These establishments are granted valid operating permits by Fraser Health after a thorough application review and on-site inspection. All valid permits must be clearly displayed and visible to customers.

Recently, Fraser Health has received complaints about illegal food service operations within the community. These reports include businesses operating from unapproved commercial kitchens or private homes, such as single-family houses, garages, townhomes, and apartments. Such unlicensed food services may include catering, tiffin services, takeout or delivery of ready-to-eat meals, and baked goods.

Buying food from unlicensed or illegal operators increases the risk of foodborne illnesses caused by improper food preparation, storage, or handling. Foodborne illnesses like E. coli and hepatitis can be especially dangerous for young children, seniors, pregnant individuals, and those with weakened immune systems.
