Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced that the province will pause its U.S. anti-tariff advertising campaign starting Monday, after U.S. President Donald Trump ended trade talks with Canada in response to the ads.

“Our goal was to spark a discussion about the kind of economy Americans want to build and how tariffs affect workers and businesses,” Ford said Friday on X. “We’ve accomplished that, reaching audiences at the highest levels in the U.S.”

Ford said the ads will continue running through the weekend to air during the first two games of the World Series, but will be paused afterward.

He added that the decision came after a discussion with Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Earlier on Friday, Ford’s office has said that the advertisement — part of a $75 million campaign — will air during Fox’s broadcast of Game 1 of the World Series in the United States tonight.

The campaign, launched earlier this month, features archival footage of former U.S. president Ronald Reagan, a highly regarded Republican figure, speaking about the negative effects of tariffs.

British Columbia will make own advertisements

B.C. Premier David Eby said that “truth will prevail” as he announced plans for the province to launch its own anti-tariff advertising campaign.

“Americans need to understand that tariffs drive up prices,” Eby wrote on X. “We’re creating ads to stand up for British Columbia and Canada’s forestry workers.”

Eby says that Canada’s wood industry faces higher tariffs from the U.S. than Russia, calling it “absurd.”
