SURREY, BC – The Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating an overnight shooting in the Mud Bay Park parking lot that sent one person to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say the incident occurred during a confrontation between two groups.
According to police, around 12:15 a.m. on June 23, SPS Frontline officers were called to a local hospital after staff reported a man had arrived with a gunshot wound. Officers spoke with the victim and several witnesses, determining the shooting took place earlier that night in the Mud Bay Park parking lot.
“The SPS Frontline Investigative Support Team (FLIST) has taken over the lead in the investigation. At this time, it appears the shots were fired during an altercation between two groups of men in the Mud Bay Park parking lot. The victim, a man in his 20s, was driven to the hospital by friends and has since been released. Police state that at this early stage, the motive for the shooting is unknown, and there is no suspect information to share,” said staff sergeant Lindsey Houghton.
Surrey Police are appealing to witnesses to come forward saying “If you witnessed the shooting or have any information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, please contact the police”.
