The FBI has released photos of a person of interest in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and is appealing to the public for help in identifying the individual. The shooting occurred on Wednesday at Utah Valley University during a public event.

Authorities say the sniper, who has not yet been identified, fired a single shot from a rooftop before fleeing into a nearby neighborhood. Beau Mason, Commissioner of the Utah Department of Public Safety, stated that the shooter appears to be of college age and was able to blend in with the crowd on campus.

Investigators have recovered a high-powered, bolt-action rifle believed to be the weapon used in the attack from a nearby wooded area. The FBI is currently reviewing video footage and has released two images of the person of interest, who is seen wearing a hat, sunglasses, and a black long-sleeve shirt. The bureau is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to an arrest.

The shooting, which has been described as a “political assassination” by Utah Governor Spencer Cox, has sparked widespread condemnation. U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his shock and sorrow, and announced he would posthumously award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The motive for the attack remains unclear, but officials are confident they have been able to track the shooter’s movements on campus. Two people initially detained were released after being cleared of any involvement.
