The father of a nine-year-old Canadian girl from Montreal, whom he reported missing, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, according to New York State Police.

Police stated that Melina Frattolin was reported missing late Saturday evening by her 45-year-old father, Luciano Frattolin, near Lake George in New York. Her body was discovered Sunday near Ticonderoga, close to the state border with Vermont.

Melina’s body was found in the shallow portion of a pond yesterday morning, Sunday, July 20, at approximately 10:50 a.m. in Ticonderoga, New York.

Her father called 911 around 10 p.m. on Saturday, reporting his daughter missing with a possible abduction in Lake George.

Police confirmed that Melina was seen with her father on surveillance video in Saratoga Springs, New York, around 5:20 p.m. that day. She spoke to her mother at approximately 6:30 p.m., stating she was enroute back to Canada.

“The investigation has determined that sometime after Melina’s phone call with her mother and before Frattolin’s 911 call, he allegedly murdered Melina and left her body in a remote area,” police stated.

On July 11, the father and daughter legally entered the U.S. for a vacation and were expected to return on the day her father made the 911 call.

Luciano Frattolin also faces charges of concealment of a human corpse.

Police confirmed that Melina’s mother, who resides in Montreal, has had sole custody of her daughter since 2019.
