One person has died and several others were injured following a two-vehicle collision on Vancouver Island’s Highway 1 on Thursday afternoon.
According to a statement from Shawnigan Lake RCMP on Friday, officers were called to a section of Highway 1 in the Cowichan Valley, near the Whittaker Road intersection, just after 4 p.m. on Thursday following a report of a crash.
Police said the driver and passenger of one vehicle, a black Dodge Ram, sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital. The four occupants of the second vehicle, a white Toyota Corolla, suffered “varying degrees of injuries,” and tragically, one passenger did not survive.
Highway 1 was partially closed for approximately four hours for the investigation but has since been reopened.
