A 22-year-old man has been charged in connection with an extortion-related shooting at an Abbotsford business earlier this week, which police described as a “serious public safety concern.”

Officers were called to the business on the 31000 block of King Road just before 10:45 p.m. Wednesday and confirmed that a shooting had taken place. No one was injured.

The suspect was arrested the same night after police tracked down his vehicle.

Gusewak Singh was officially charged Thursday evening with reckless discharge of a firearm. He remains in custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for December 23.

Abbotsford police released a photo of Singh, saying it was deemed in the public interest.

“This image may help provide accurate information and encourage additional witnesses, victims, or associates to come forward with details regarding Mr. Singh’s activities,” the department said in a statement Friday. “Public cooperation is vital in extortion cases, and this action reflects our commitment to accountability and community safety.”

Deputy Chief Daniel Culbertson stated, “This arrest, along with the ongoing efforts of our dedicated officers, underscores that public safety is our highest priority. We will continue to protect the community from extortion, violence, and intimidation and dedicate the necessary resources to hold those responsible accountable.”

Police are urging anyone with information to contact the department’s extortion task force at 604-859-5225.
