Federal Energy Minister Tim Hodgson says the federal government is close to providing clarity on revoking the West Coast oil tanker ban.
Hodgson made the comment before a House of Commons committee when asked about a potential energy agreement between Ottawa and Alberta, which could include a new oil pipeline to the West Coast.
The ban was legislated in 2019 and has been strongly opposed by Alberta.
Hodgson stated, “I think we are getting close to a place, and when that (agreement) happens, we will have more clarity.”
Meanwhile, B.C. Premier David Eby has appealed to Ottawa to keep the ban in place, while Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has stated that she intends to submit a proposal for a pipeline to the West Coast as a “grand bargain.”
