B.C. Premier David Eby is traveling to Ottawa this week to press the federal government for greater investment in major infrastructure projects across the province.
According to his office, Eby is leading a mission that runs until Thursday, with a key meeting scheduled with Prime Minister Mark Carney to discuss B.C.’s economic priorities.
The province also plans to seek clarity on the next steps for several large-scale projects and push for the funding needed to advance them. Two B.C. projects — the second phase of LNG Canada and the Red Chris mine expansion — were among five recently identified by Ottawa for potential fast-tracking.
B.C. is currently facing a record-high projected deficit of nearly $11.6 billion for the first quarter of the 2025–26 fiscal year.
Eby noted that while 40 per cent of the federal government’s nation-building projects are already based in B.C., he intends to advocate for additional projects to be included in the next round of funding.
