A two-vehicle collision north of Fort St. John on Monday afternoon has left one driver dead, according to authorities.
At approximately 1:42 p.m., Fort St. John RCMP responded to a crash involving an SUV and a tanker truck on Highway 97 North at 269 Rd.
Responding officers from Fort St. John RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, and Charlie Lake and Fort St. John Fire Services determined that a southbound SUV failed to stop at a red light and collided with the tanker truck as it was turning left onto the highway.
The driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene. The individual’s family has been notified.
The highway was closed for a period while the RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services conducted their investigation.
