The Vancouver City Council has announced the selection of Donny van Dyk as Vancouver’s new City Manager. This appointment comes just one week after former Vancouver City Manager Paul Mochrie announced he was stepping down.

“On behalf of Vancouver City Council, I’m thrilled to welcome Donny van Dyk as our new City Manager,” stated Mayor Ken Sim. “Donny brings a results-driven mindset and a strong mix of public and private sector experience that will help us deliver real, tangible outcomes for Vancouverites. As we take on key priorities like meeting our budget targets, delivering the next four-year capital plan, and advancing important work to support residents and businesses, Donny’s proven ability to deliver practical results makes him the right person to lead the implementation of Council’s ambitious agenda.”

Van Dyk, 40, joins the City of Vancouver from the City of Delta, where he began as City Manager in September 2023. Prior to that, he served a four-year term as Penticton’s City Manager.

He also worked for Enbridge for five years and, before that, was the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the District of New Hazelton in Northern B.C.

Van Dyk is a Chartered Professional Accountant who earned his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Northern B.C., followed by a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Victoria. During his time at Enbridge, he held several senior roles in community and Indigenous relations, government affairs, and finance.

On July 22, Mayor Sim had indicated that he and Mochrie had “mutually agreed that it was the right time for a leadership change.”
