New details are surfacing about the life of Tumbler Ridge shooter Jesse Van Rootselaar, including a past court ruling that described her family’s “nomadic lifestyle” and the removal of her Roblox account, which was used to create a simulated mall shooting game.

Roblox said Thursday it deleted the account linked to the suspect and any associated content, adding it is cooperating fully with law enforcement. Videos shared online showed a game character moving through a mall environment, collecting weapons and shooting others.

According to a detailed report by The Canadian Press, RCMP have said officers previously attended the split-level Tumbler Ridge home multiple times over mental health concerns. Police allege Van Rootselaar killed her mother, Jennifer Jacobs, and 11-year-old stepbrother, Emmett Jacobs, at the home before going to Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, where a teacher’s aide and five children were fatally shot.

A 2015 B.C. Supreme Court decision involving a custody dispute between Van Rootselaar’s parents described frequent moves between Newfoundland and Labrador, Alberta and British Columbia. The ruling found Jacobs had failed to provide proper notice before relocating the children and ordered their return to B.C., citing extended periods when their father did not know their whereabouts.

Investigators in protective gear continued examining the family home Thursday. Community members in both Tumbler Ridge and Lawn, N.L., where Jacobs had ties, expressed shock and grief over the tragedy. Police have said the victims at the school were chosen at random.
