On July 8, a court sentenced 25-year-old Dedaar Jhooty from Delta to three and a half years in prison for a fatal stabbing in Whistler. Along with the prison sentence, he was also handed a DNA order and a lifetime ban on possessing firearms.

The incident took place in the early morning of August 14, 2021, around 2 a.m., when Sea to Sky RCMP responded to the Whistler Medical Clinic. By the time they arrived, the victim had already died. The stabbing claimed the life of 26-year-old Coquitlam Henry Stanley Garcia and occurred outside the Bearfoot Bistro in Whistler’s Village Green area. His family says he was trying to hail a taxi to get back to his hotel. There was a verbal altercation between the victim, his friend and another group of men. It escalated and Garcia Molina was stabbed. He later died in hospital.

After an extensive review of multiple videos from the area, Jhooty was identified as a person of interest.

Approximately nine months later, in 2022, Dedaar Jhooty was arrested and charged with manslaughter. Last year, he pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
