A person has died suddenly at a protest camp situated outside a B.C. ostrich farm, which has been involved in a legal dispute over an order to cull its birds, according to authorities.
The RCMP stated they were called yesterday around 7 a.m. to investigate a sudden death after members of a police liaison team observed an unresponsive individual on the property of the Universal Ostrich Farm.
“CPR initiated by police continued until BC Emergency Health Services arrived,” an RCMP statement confirmed. “Despite the significant efforts of both police and paramedics, the individual could not be saved.”
The individual has been identified, but police are currently working to notify their next of kin. The RCMP confirmed there is no indication that the person’s death is suspicious.
The protest camp has been established on the property as the ostrich farm fights the order regarding the fate of its birds.
