Health officials have issued a public warning about counterfeit hydromorphone tablets circulating in the Kamloops, B.C., region, which carry a significant risk of overdose.

According to a public alert released Thursday by Interior Health, the fake tablets contain unknown amounts of a fentanyl analog known as N-propionyl para-fluoronorfentanyl.

“These tablets do not contain hydromorphone,” the health authority cautioned. “There is a risk of counterfeit drugs if not purchased from a licensed pharmacy.”

Officials also shared images of the counterfeit pills and urged anyone in possession of similar-looking tablets to have them tested before use. The counterfeit drugs are sometimes being sold under the prescription brand name Dilaudid—or its street name, “dillies”—Interior Health added.
