Vancouver, BC- Members of the Conservative Party will hold a national convention in late January, where they’re set to cast votes on Pierre Poilievre’s leadership. The party’s national council has scheduled the convention for January 29 to 31 in Calgary.
Poilievre, who lost his seat in the House of Commons in the April 2025 federal election, will face a secret ballot vote on his continued leadership. These types of reviews automatically occur after a party loses an election, and Poilievre will need to secure the support of over half the voters at the convention to retain his position.
During the convention, Poilievre will also present a report to delegates and hold an accountability session. His return to Parliament is anticipated by January, as he intends to run in a by-election this summer in a rural Alberta riding, which is historically a strong Conservative stronghold. This by-election win would allow him to re-enter the House of Commons ahead of the leadership vote.
The upcoming convention marks a pivotal moment for the Conservative Party as they look to regroup and strategize following their recent electoral defeat. The outcome of the leadership vote will significantly influence the party’s direction and its approach to the next federal election.
