Hamilton, Ontario-Hamilton, Ontario police have charged the common-law partner of 40-year-old Shalini Singh in connection with her second-degree murder. On December 4 of last year, Shalini contacted her family for the last time, and her family filed a missing person report on December 10. Last month, human remains were found in a landfill. DNA test confirmed them to be Shalini Singh’s, after which her 42-year-old common-law partner was charged. Until then, it was claimed that Burlington resident Jeffrey Smith was not even in the city at the time of Shalini Singh’s disappearance.

According to the police, Shalini Singh was murdered sometime between the evening of December 4 and the morning of December 5. Police suspected that while Shalini entered her building safely, she might have come out in a garbage bag. Based on this suspicion, GPS data guided officers to a specific landfill site, where they were successfully able to locate the remains.
