A 17-year-old boy in Chilliwack is facing recommended weapons charges after allegedly threatening a man with a replica handgun earlier this week.
Chilliwack RCMP stated that the incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on Tuesday near the intersection of Teskey Way and Promontory Road. The victim reported that he was approached by a group of male youths, and one of them had “pointed a handgun at him and made verbal threats.”
When officers arrived at the scene, the suspects fled, leading to a foot pursuit. Police successfully arrested three of the youths, including a teen who matched the victim’s description of the person who pointed the firearm.
“A search of the suspect revealed a replica handgun tucked into the waistband of his pants,” the Mounties confirmed. Police noted that they were initially unsure if the weapon was real, emphasizing the serious risk posed to the public and officers in such situations.
Chilliwack RCMP is recommending charges against the 17-year-old, including assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The teen suspect has since been released into the custody of his guardian, where he is awaiting a court date. Authorities are using this incident to remind the public that all firearm-related reports trigger a significant police response, as officers must act on the presumption that all guns are real until proven otherwise.
