Child rescued from drowning in Surrey pool

The City of Surrey reports that a tragedy was averted on Monday after a child was found unconscious in a 50-meter pool at the city’s Sport and Leisure Complex.

According to Surrey’s parks, recreation, and culture department, lifeguards performed CPR and successfully revived the child. Paramedics later transported the child to the hospital.

A spokesperson for BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) confirmed that the child was in “serious, but stable condition.”

City staff temporarily closed the aquatics center, which reopened at 5 p.m.
