More than three years after a stabbing near an elementary school in Port Coquitlam, two people have now been charged.

Coquitlam RCMP reports that a 23-year-old man from Port Coquitlam and a youth—whose identity is protected due to legal reasons—are each facing three charges: aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The charges relate to a stabbing that took place shortly after 1:00 a.m. on June 4, 2022, near Central Elementary School. Police responded to the scene at that time.

The 23-year-old remains in custody, while the youth has been released with court-imposed conditions. The BC Prosecution Service formally laid charges against the adult suspect in June of this year. Court documents indicate he is scheduled to appear in court later this month.

At the time, RCMP said the incident appeared to be isolated. No motive has been released.
