Prime Minister Mark Carney will visit northern B.C. to meet with Coastal First Nations before departing on an international trip to China, Qatar, and the World Economic Forum in Davos. The meeting, set for Tuesday, is expected to cover major regional projects, sustainable development, and empowering Indigenous communities in marine conservation and ocean protection.
Carney will be joined by Energy Minister Tim Hodgson, Housing Minister Gregor Robertson, and B.C. MP Wade Grant. The visit coincides with the planned Ksi Lisims LNG facility near Prince Rupert, a project supported by the federal and provincial governments and the Nisga’a Nation, though facing legal challenges from other First Nations.
Coastal First Nations oppose a proposed northern B.C. oil pipeline, despite a federal–Alberta memorandum outlining a potential path forward and lifting an oil tanker ban along the coast.
