New data from Statistics Canada reveals a continued decline in the number of American and overseas visitors to Canada.

In April, the number of trips to Canada by U.S. residents decreased by 8.9 percent, while trips by overseas residents saw a 0.6 percent reduction.

This marks the third consecutive month of decline in trips to Canada by U.S. residents and the seventh consecutive month of decline in trips by overseas visitors.

During the same period, the number of Canadians returning from trips to the U.S. surprisingly dropped by 29.1 percent, marking the fourth consecutive month of decline. Conversely, the number of Canadians returning home from overseas air travel increased by 9.1 percent.

Overall, Canadians returned from 3.6 million foreign trips in April, including 2.3 million trips to the United States – a total decrease of 18.9 percent from April 2024.

The decrease in overseas visitors to Canada was mainly due to a 12.6 percent drop in arrivals from Asia.
