Canada’s Foreign Affairs minister Anita Anand says conditions in Mexico are showing signs of improvement after some airlines resumed flights today.
Authorities had advised tourists and residents to shelter in place over the weekend following violent unrest triggered by the death of a notorious cartel leader. Anand noted that while instability varies by region, the overall situation for Canadians on the ground is stabilizing.
She urged Canadians with upcoming trips to monitor conditions daily before making travel decisions. About 55,000 Canadians are currently registered with Ottawa while in Mexico, and Anand advised them to follow guidance from local authorities.
