Canada defeated Finland 3-2 in a dramatic semifinal at the 2026 Winter Olympics, punching its ticket to the gold-medal game.

After falling behind 2-0 early in the second period, Canada mounted a three-goal comeback capped by a power-play winner from Nathan MacKinnon with just 36 seconds remaining in regulation. MacKinnon buried a saucer pass from captain Connor McDavid to complete the rally.

Sam Reinhart and Shea Theodore also scored for Canada, while goaltender Jordan Binnington made 15 saves. McDavid finished with two assists.

Canada captain Sidney Crosby did not dress due to a lower-body injury suffered in the quarterfinal win over Czechia.

Finland, seeded fourth, got goals from Sebastian Aho and Erik Haula, while goaltender Juuse Saros turned aside 36 shots. Finland will now play for bronze.

The victory keeps Canada undefeated in the tournament and marks the first time a team has recorded back-to-back third-period comeback wins at an Olympic tournament featuring NHL players. Canada had previously rallied from a 3-2 third-period deficit to defeat Czechia in overtime in the quarterfinal.

Canada, which has captured gold at the past two Olympics featuring NHL participation, will face the winner of the semifinal between the United States and Slovakia in Sunday’s gold-medal final.
