Today, Prime Minister Mark Carney met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G7 Leaders’ Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta.
Both leaders reaffirmed the strong relationship between Canada and India, grounded in mutual respect, the rule of law, and a shared commitment to sovereignty and territorial integrity. They agreed to appoint new High Commissioners with the goal of restoring normal services for citizens and businesses in both countries.
Their discussions highlighted the deep and longstanding ties between the people of Canada and India, growing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, and key commercial relationships—particularly in areas like economic development, supply chains, and the transition to clean energy. Prime Minister Carney also addressed G7 priorities such as tackling transnational crime and repression, enhancing security, and upholding the international rules-based order.
The leaders also explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration in areas such as technology, digital transformation, food security, and critical minerals.
