Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand today announced more sanctions on Russia while hosting top diplomats from the Group of Seven (G7) countries in the Niagara region.
The sanctions will target those behind Russia’s drone and cyber attacks on Ukraine, as well as vessels in Russia’s sanctions-evading shadow fleet.
G7 foreign ministers are scheduled to hear from Ukraine’s foreign minister this morning as Russia once again targets Ukraine’s power grid. The Russian attacks have caused rolling blackouts in Ukraine as winter approaches, and U.S.-led diplomatic efforts remain at a standstill.
Anand also invited Australia, Brazil, India, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and South Korea to participate in the two-day gathering.
The assembled top diplomats will also discuss critical minerals, energy security, and economic resilience as U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies continue to rattle traditional alliances.
