Maninder Sidhu, Canada’s Minister of International Trade, held talks yesterday with Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry.

Ahead of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s upcoming visit to India, the discussion underscored both countries’ shared commitment to deepening bilateral trade and investment relations. The ministers reviewed progress toward negotiating a Canada-India comprehensive economic partnership agreement, an initiative announced by Prime Minister Carney and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the most recent G20 Leaders’ Summit in November 2025.

The two ministers also explored opportunities to expand cooperation in key sectors including energy, aerospace, mining and emerging technologies — industries viewed by both countries as critical to sustainable economic growth and stronger supply chains. Investment prospects between Canada and India were also part of the conversation.

Minister Sidhu thanked Minister Goyal for the productive exchange and said he looks forward to continuing discussions with him and other Indian counterparts.
