The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the investigation following an evening shooting in Burnaby that left one man dead.

Incident Details:
On January 22, 2026, just before 5:30 p.m., Burnaby RCMP responded to reports of gunfire near the 3700 block of Canada Way. Officers found a male victim at the scene, but despite life-saving efforts, he did not survive. Shortly afterward, a vehicle was discovered burning in the 5000 block of Buxton Street, which investigators believe is connected to the shooting.

Initial findings indicate the incident was targeted. IHIT has now identified the victim as 28-year-old Dilraj Singh Gill of Vancouver, who was known to police. Investigators say the shooting appears linked to the ongoing BC gang conflict.

Police are actively gathering evidence from the vehicle and working alongside Burnaby RCMP, the Lower Mainland District Integrated Forensic Identification Service, and the BC Coroners Service. Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT emphasized the importance of witness information, stating that public cooperation is crucial to holding those responsible accountable.
