Significant developments have been announced in the investigation into a fatal vehicle fire on Highway 17 in Delta last month, with police confirming homicide charges and the arrest of the deceased woman’s brother-in-law.

According to available information, the Delta Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle incident and subsequent vehicle fire in the 7000 block of Highway 17 at approximately 11:20 p.m. on October 26, 2025.

The sole female occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. She has since been identified as 30-year-old Mandeep Kaur, a resident of Delta.

Family members have confirmed that Mandeep Kaur was originally from Raikot in the Ludhiana district of Punjab. She had recently married this year and had moved to Delta from Edmonton in April.

Police stated that the circumstances surrounding the incident appeared suspicious during the early stages, prompting a comprehensive investigation by the Delta Police Major Crime Section.

As a result of this investigation, 24-year-old Gurjot Singh Khaira, a resident of Delta and the victim’s brother-in-law, was arrested on November 6, 2025.

Initially, Khaira was charged with indignity to human remains under a section of the Criminal Code and was remanded in custody.

However, police have now revealed that Crown Counsel has approved an additional charge of Second-degree murder against Gurjot Singh Khaira.

Authorities have stated that due to the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings, no further details will be released at this time.
