A border services officer stationed at the Queenston-Lewiston port of entry in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, is facing serious criminal charges. The officer is accused of allowing a transport truck carrying millions of dollars worth of opium, cannabis, and tobacco to enter Canada illegally.

The investigation was launched by the RCMP’s Central Region Unit after receiving confidential information from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) regarding the officer’s conduct.

In January 2026, officer Daniel Notarianni was arrested following a determination that he had allegedly violated CBSA policies. Investigators claim he allowed a transport truck and trailer containing a massive quantity of illegal goods to cross the border without a proper inspection.

The driver of the transport truck, identified as Abhishek Abhishek, was also taken into custody in connection with the incident. Both men are facing several major charges, including:

Conspiracy to import and traffic controlled substances (Opium).

Trafficking and distribution of Cannabis for commercial purposes.

Illegal sale and transportation of tobacco products.

Daniel Notarianni is scheduled to make his next court appearance on March 23, while Abhishek Abhishek is expected to appear in court on April 9.

The RCMP stated that this enforcement action highlights the vigilance of Canadian security agencies in guarding the border and demonstrates a “zero-tolerance” approach toward internal corruption and organized smuggling.
