Surrey, B.C. – Applications for British Columbia’s publicly funded in-vitro fertilization (IVF) program opened on Wednesday, (July 2).

The program will cover one cycle of IVF per patient for those enrolled in the province’s Medical Services Plan (MSP). Patients won’t apply directly; their fertility doctor must submit the application on their behalf.

IVF is a medical procedure that helps individuals conceive by fertilizing an egg with sperm outside the body before implanting it in the womb. It’s often utilized by those facing infertility due to age or reproductive challenges.

Each eligible patient can receive up to $19,000 in funding.

To qualify for the funding, patients must be between 18 and 41 years old. The province has stated that an exception will be made for individuals who turn 42 between April 1 and July 2, 2025.

This initiative, backed by $68 million from the provincial budget over two years, brings B.C. in line with at least seven other Canadian provinces that offer either full coverage or a reimbursement scheme for IVF treatments.

While applications are now open, the province has not yet indicated how long patients can expect to wait for funding to be allocated after their applications are submitted.
