As the BC Day long weekend kick off, people across British Columbia are hitting the roads and the seas, leading to heavy traffic at BC Ferries terminals since Friday morning.
All vehicle reservations for major routes are sold out for the day, with drivers facing long queues even before reaching the toll booths. Passengers without a booking are being advised to arrive early and prepare for significant waits.
The BC Day long weekend is typically the busiest travel period of the year for BC Ferries. The company expects to transport more than 580,000 passengers and over 200,000 vehicles between now and Monday.
To handle the high demand, BC Ferries has its full summer schedule in effect, with every available vessel in service. Officials noted that operations ran smoothly during the Canada Day long weekend and they are hoping for a similar outcome this time.
