SURREY, BC – The BC Conservatives are gathering in Surrey today for their regular caucus meeting, with a leadership vote for John Rustad currently underway. This comes as the Opposition leader faces scrutiny over his handling of blackmail allegations against a group of former Conservative Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).

The three former Conservatives, Dallas Brodie, Tara Armstrong, and Jordan Kealy, have all vehemently denied the blackmail accusations. They contend that these claims are a deliberate attempt to distract from ongoing questions surrounding Rustad’s leadership.

The RCMP has confirmed that the allegations are under review. This investigation was initiated after the Mounties were formally requested to look into the matter by the governing NDP’s caucus chair last week.

Adding another layer to the controversy, Rustad himself stated that party staff who initially alleged they were being blackmailed are now unwilling to provide written statements to the police currently assessing their claims. This refusal to cooperate with the investigation could further complicate the situation for the embattled leader and the party as a whole.
