The B.C. Conservatives have voiced deep concern following a shooting at comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Surrey early Thursday morning, with two Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) confirming the restaurant sustained material damage.

MLAs Mandeep Dhaliwal and Elenore Sturko issued a joint statement emphasizing their distress over what they describe as escalating violence and public unrest in the city.

“We have spoken directly with the owners of Kap’s Cafe, who have confirmed that, thankfully, no one was physically harmed,” stated Dhaliwal. “It is clear that this disturbing act was deliberate.”

Dhaliwal underscored the public’s growing frustration, adding, “Surrey residents are fed up. Public safety is not a political talking point, it’s a daily concern. We need action, not more excuses.”

Sturko echoed these sentiments, asserting, “This should never happen in our city, and it must be stopped entirely. People should feel safe to operate businesses, raise their families, and walk our streets. Unfortunately, under this NDP government, communities like Surrey are becoming more dangerous by the day.”

The incident at Kap’s Cafe occurred around 1:50 a.m. on Thursday. Police have indicated that an online video purportedly showing the shooting appears to be legitimate, and investigators are urging anyone with information regarding the case to come forward.
